  8. Exercise: check a real URL
  9. Reference source

If you need to check Yandex indexing for an article, start with one specific public URL—not the entire website. By the end of this article, you will know how to check a URL in Yandex Webmaster, distinguish between a URL being known, the bot having visited it, and the page appearing in search; you will also be able to create a tracking record with the check date, evidence, and next step.

In brief: the Yandex bot may have visited a URL even though the URL has not yet been included in search results. Conversely, not finding an article in a single search is not enough to conclude that it has been excluded from the index. Read the data in Webmaster, then cross-check it using the URL itself.

Distinguishing between Yandex knowing a URL, visiting it, and indexing it

Think of these as different stages:

  • URL known: Yandex has identified the address from a link, sitemap, or another source. This does not prove that the bot has downloaded the content.
  • Bot visited: the robot requested the URL and received a response. The crawl date and response code are commonly recorded in the report.
  • Indexed or potentially appearing in search: Yandex has processed the URL so that it can potentially serve it in search. This status does not guarantee high rankings, impressions, or visits.

Crawling, index processing, and generating search results are different stages. Therefore, “the website has been verified,” “the sitemap has been submitted,” “the bot has visited,” and “the article appears in search” are not the same outcome (according to Yandex Webmaster, Yandex Webmaster).

Prepare the URL and access permissions

You need:

Chú thích cho quảng cáo
  • Permission to view data for the website added to Yandex Webmaster. If you do not have permission or the website has not been connected, record that status instead of drawing conclusions from missing report data.
  • A publicly accessible article that does not require sign-in.
  • The final URL after opening it in a browser, including the correct http or https, domain name, and www prefix if applicable.
  • A place to record the check date, status, evidence, and next step.

Open the article in a private window, wait for it to finish loading, and record the final address in the browser’s address bar. If you enter one address but the browser redirects to another, use the final address. For SaibABC.Com, replace only [URL bài viết công khai] after the actual address has been checked; do not guess the article path.

Check the URL status in Yandex Webmaster

1. Use the page-checking tool

Where to work: browser → Yandex Webmaster. Select the correct website, then open the area equivalent to Indexing → Check page. Menu names may vary by interface language or version; look for a tool that lets you enter a URL and view the page status.

Enter the full [URL bài viết công khai], select a device type if the tool requires it, and start the check. When data is available, the tool may show the response code received by the bot, how the content was seen, and the URL’s status in search (according to Yandex Webmaster, Page check).

Record:

  • The URL that the tool actually checked.
  • The URL’s status in search, if the report provides it.
  • The HTTP response code, such as 200 OK, 301, 404 or a server error.
  • Information about redirects, robots.txt, noindex or content accessibility, if shown.
  • The date and time of the check.

How to read it: a status indicating that the URL is in search is more direct evidence than a code 200 OK. A code 200 OK it only shows that the server returned a successful response during that check; it does not, by itself, prove that the page has been indexed.

2. Compare the most recent bot visit

Where to perform this: Yandex Webmaster → the section corresponding to Indexing → Crawl statistics. Find the URL or article path in the bot-visit data. The report may show the most recent visit date and response code.

Crawl statistics data is updated after the bot visits the page. This report helps you determine whether the bot has fetched the URL, but it should not be used on its own to conclude that the URL is appearing in search results (according to Yandex Webmaster, Crawl statistics).

IndicatorWhat you can concludeWhat you cannot yet conclude
A bot-visit date and a 200 OK response codeThe bot visited the URL and received a successful response during the recorded visitThe page is definitely appearing in search results
A status indicating that the URL is in searchThe URL has been added to data that can be used to serve search resultsThe URL has a high ranking or is receiving traffic
The URL is not visible in the reportNo evidence has been found in the report currently being viewedThe URL was definitely penalized, blocked, or will never be indexed
A 3xx, 4xx, or 5xx responseCheck the destination address, access error, or serverThe final cause, unless you have first read the detailed message and checked the destination URL

Compare with search results using the URL itself

Where to perform this: open a private window, go to Yandex Search, and search for the exact article URL. You can try:

url:https://ten-mien-cua-ban.example/duong-dan-bai-viet/

Replace the entire sample URL with the real URL you checked. If the page appears when you search by URL or the url:, that is an indication that the page has been indexed. However, search results can vary over time and according to how the system displays them; do not use a single search as the only evidence (according to Yandex Webmaster, How many site pages are included in search?).

If no result appears, return to Webmaster and check the following in order:

  1. Is the URL you entered the final address after redirection?
  2. Does the page-check tool show the URL as in search, excluded, with no data available, or with another message?
  3. Has the bot ever visited the URL, and what response code did it receive most recently?
  4. Does the page have noindex, is it blocked in robots.txt, require a login, or return a server error?
  5. Was the website recently published or was its URL recently changed?

The URL may not be visible because the data has not yet been updated, the bot has not visited it, the page was excluded for technical reasons, or the query returned no result. “No data available” does not mean “penalized.”

Create a tracking record for one URL

Create a tracking record for one URL

Create a record for a real URL on a website you manage. For SaibABC.Com, enter the address only after you have checked it in practice.

Field to recordValue to enter
URL checked[URL bài viết công khai]
Date and time checked[ngày và giờ thực tế]
Address after redirection[URL cuối cùng hoặc Không chuyển hướng]
Status in Check page[đã trong tìm kiếm / bị loại / chưa có dữ liệu / thông báo khác]
Most recent bot visit[ngày thực tế hoặc Chưa thấy dữ liệu]
Response code[200 / 3xx / 4xx / 5xx]
Result when searching by URL[có kết quả / chưa thấy kết quả]
Evidence[trạng thái báo cáo, ảnh chụp giao diện thật nếu được phép hoặc ghi chú màn hình]
Next step[theo dõi / kiểm tra lỗi / yêu cầu thu thập lại khi phù hợp]

The record is complete when someone else can tell which URL you checked, when you checked it, what evidence you relied on, and what you will do next. Do not enter “indexed” simply because the article returned 200 OK or because the sitemap was accepted.

Choose the next step based on the evidence

  • The URL is in search and the response code is stable: record the result and monitor it if the article is important. You do not need to change the configuration simply because the article does not rank highly.
  • The bot has visited the URL, but the URL is not in search: read the reason or exclusion status in Webmaster. Check robots.txt, noindex, redirects, and the response content before making changes.
  • No bot visit found: check whether the URL is publicly accessible and included in the sitemap or internal links. If you submit a recrawl request, record the submission date; submitting a request is not evidence that the URL has been indexed.
  • 4xx or 5xx response: check the server, the final URL, and the protection layer. Do not disable all security controls or change DNS settings in bulk just to test.
  • Redirected URL: identify the final destination URL. If the old URL redirects to a new one, record both addresses in the tracking record.

If you need to review how to select the correct reporting area and distinguish missing data from an alert that requires action, see how to read the Yandex Webmaster dashboard.

Misconceptions to avoid

Once a website is verified, all of its articles are indexed

Not necessarily. Verification only shows that you have permission to manage the website. Individual URLs may still not have been crawled, may contain errors, may be blocked, or may have been excluded from search.

A successfully submitted sitemap means that every URL has been indexed

Not necessarily. A sitemap provides additional information about URLs and website structure; Yandex still needs to crawl and process each page and decide how to include it in search.

Not finding an article once means it has been penalized

There is no basis for that conclusion. Check the URL status, the latest bot visit, the response code, and the exclusion reason if the report provides one.

If a page opens in a browser, the bot will definitely see the same thing

Not necessarily. A CAPTCHA, login requirement, IP restriction, redirect, cache, or server configuration may cause the bot to receive a different response from the one your browser receives.

Exercise: check a real URL

Choose a public article that you manage and record the following five items:

  1. The final URL after opening it in a private window.
  2. The status displayed by the page inspection tool.
  3. The date of the latest bot visit and the response code, if available.
  4. The result when searching for the exact URL in Yandex Search.
  5. A next step selected based on evidence, not guesswork.

If data is missing for any item, write “no data” or “not checked”. Do not change this to “not indexed” when the report has not established that.

This record helps you move on to the next task: if the URL has an error, fix the layer causing the error; if no data is available, continue monitoring or use an appropriate notification method. Notifying Yandex or requesting a recrawl only prompts the bot to review the URL; it does not guarantee that the article will appear in search immediately.
